Understanding Your Account

Your free personal account on Business4WV gives you access to more than just information!  Create an account to:
 - File a new business registration with and pay registration fees.
 - Track the progress of your registration through the agencies.
 - Check for messages from agencies processing your registration and respond online.
 - Save important information to your personal filing cabinet for future use.

Actions related to your account are now found in the left menu in the Business For West Virginia section.  You will find choices for creating a new account, logging in to your account and retrieving a forgotten password.  More choices will be available after you log in.

Creating Your New Account

Your account is secure, and no identifying information is shared with anyone except the state agencies that handle your business registration or licensing.

  • Go to User Registration, or click Register Now in the Business For West Virginia section at the top of the left menu when you are ready to sign up.

  • Be sure to complete all required fields -- marked by *

  • When you submit your user registration, a page indicating that your account has been registered successfully should be displayed.  An email will be automatically sent to the email address you provided confirming your registration.

  • To access your personal account, click the Log In link in the Business For West Virginia section at the top of the left menu.

  • To insure security, your password will automatically expire every 365 days. You will be able to reactivate your account by selecting a new password.  As long as you use the same user name, you will have access to your registrations in progress and your account history, even after your password changes.

Changing Your Account Information

You may make changes in your account, such as e-mail, address, telephone or fax numbers.  You may not change your name or your user name for security reasons. If your legal name changes, please establish a new account.  To make a change:

  • Click the Log In link in the Business For West Virginia section at the top of the left menu.
  • When you have logged in, you will see a My Account section at the top of the left menu.  Click the Account Settings link.
  • Make any changes you wish, other than your name or user name, then click Update/Close at the bottom of the screen.
  • To change your password, click the Reset button, then enter the old password, the new password, and the new password again to confirm.  Click Update/Save at the bottom of the screen.  You must then log in again with your new password to reach your account.

Reactivating an Expired Account

If you try to log in and see a page that indicates that your User Account or Password has expired, this means that at least 365 days has passed since your password was last changed.   Take these steps:

  • Enter your old user name and password.

  • Enter a new password, then type the same password again to confirm.

  • After the account is reactivated, log in to enter your personal filing cabinet.
